Image just might be the opposite of everything…

“May I never be complete. May I never be content. May I never be perfect…People do it everyday, they talk to themselves… they see themselves as they’d like to be, they don’t have the courage to just run with it…Working jobs we hate to buy shit we don’t need…Things you own ends up owning you…You’re not your job. You’re not how much money you have in the bank. You’re not the car you drive. You’re not the contents of your wallet. You’re not your fucking khakis. You’re the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world…It’s not until we lose everything that we are free to do anything” – Charles Michael “Chuck” Palahniuk

In 1990 Canon released the ad campaign with Andrea Agassi “Image is everything” for their line of cameras.  To many image is just that.  Our image to many, is the sum of our actions.  Our image is nothing more than the culmination of our actions.  It is not simply the jeans we wear and how they are worn, image is the sum of all of are parts.  All of our parts being it our habits, our rituals our values; displayed for the world to see what we truely are, nothing less than a factual snapshot of what we truly are, and nothing less.  Many are consumed with this by staying up on fashion, style, fads and popular culture.  Uttering “it” is something more.    This causes great stress, people are hyper vigilant how they are perceived, not just by friends, not just strangers but by society, science, themselves and even their savior.  Which is even more appalling is not that it is just adhered to, but how far its reach is today and the standards that are set.  At one time it was easy to find this brooding force called “image.”  It once was easily disquishable and found on street corners, night clubs and MTV.  At one time the youth and preteens were the only ones who suffered from it.  However, now slithers from soul to soul, in between relationships and friendships.  It has tainted toleration, kindness and understanding.  It has mutated patience, perception and the art of conversation.  It consumes our bank accounts and regulates our spending.

So often, and too many are worried about it, worried about others.  Confused, upset, disgruntled and immersed.  Now in an era without keystones, stable points of reference.  For some image is now the way points on our treks.  These way points are nothing more than flat surfaces that causes unpredictable and unending ricochets. It broods confusion in groups, brings society into recessions and the individual to tears.  Where do we go?  Where is it coming from?

Duck, crouch, and listen for anything that sounds like reason.  We listen to anything that makes sense on the surface.  We take that path, crouched down and hope that we make it through it, or out of it. Whatever that might be…

At one point,in the proper hand, with the proper perspective “image” can be enjoyed.  However now it has tainted cultures and manipulated the individual.  To some, that is the wway it always been, to others its a right of passage, and either way times just keeps moving on…

Image is as simple as the dew on the morning grass.  It is very real to our senses, even tangiable.  Like the raindrop, from nothing it seems comes something. Its simply the result of the night before but t it is not the evening at all.  The mornig dew is not the twilight the night.
